Learn about Body Composition Analysis
How would you feel if we told you that just because you're the ideal weight doesn't mean you're a fit person… or even a healthy one? Or that someone who weighs more than you is in much better shape than you?
When it comes to tracking weight loss, most of us rely on the scale to tell us whether we've lost or gained weight…. And if you're the right weight, that's all there is to know. Or some take it one step further and calculate their BMI to really see if they're on the right track. But neither one of these give you the info you really need to understand your body--a muscular person may have a high BMI that doesn't reflect actual body composition because all of their pounds are treated the same way, as fat. And because a scale measures everything including muscle, fat, bones, and what you ate or drank that day, it really doesn't tell you what you really need to know: How much fat do you have?
Enter Body Composition Analysis—available now at Reveal™. It quickly and accurately provides detailed body composition analysis including weight, impedance, body fat percentage, body mass index, fat mass, fat-free mass and hydration levels. Too much fat can lead to health problems like heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol and other serious conditions. And surprise--you can be "fat" even if you're thin!
How it works
Reveal's Body Composition Analysis uses biolelectrical impedance, considered one of the most accurate and accessible methods of screening body fat, to create a complete reading of what makes up your body weight.
The results are based on the fact that water conducts electricity. Fat contains almost no water while muscle is about 70% water. Once you step on the body composition scale, an electrical signal passes from foot to foot. The faster the signal travels, the more muscle you have.
After your reading is complete, you'll receive a print-out with the following information: Body Mass Index or BMI (height to weight ratio); Basal Metablic Rate or BMR (total energy expended by the body to maintain normal functions such as respiration and circulation at rest); Fat Percentage (percentage of total body weight that is fat); Fat Mass (total pounds of fat in the body); Total Body Water or TBW (amount of water retained in the body); Fat Free Mass (amount of muscle, bone, tissue, water and all other fat-free mass in the body); and Desirable Range (healthy range for Fat Percentage and Fat Mass based on your age and gender). What to expect:
- Painless
- More accurate results achieved when body is adequately hydrated (at least 64 ounces of water intake a day for 48-72 hours before analysis)
